Third year pool owners, but this is the first year we haven’t just drained the whole thing and started with new fresh water. Removed the cover May 25 to find a green swamp. Brushed, vacuumed a lot, and started following a “lazy SLAM” because of my work schedule. After three days of adding in LC according to pool math, the green hadn’t budged. This is when I didn’t have my dose of P.O.P. and added in 12 pounds of 65% Cal Hypo. The pool went from green to white (like a pool full of milk) by the end of the evening last Saturday. This turned to a cloudy blue by Monday afternoon, that hasn’t changed since. I finally ordered and received a K2006 Salt test to get things figured out for myself.
Fast forward to yesterday, when I decided that either a “by the book” SLAM will clear the pool up or I’m going to drain it, remove it, and be done trying to be a pool owner.
I started at 430 yesterday with the LC additions to bring me to 18ppm FC. Tested and maintained FC levels every two hours until 1130 last night. I couldn’t get a test run today and get back to adding LC until 11am, when my FC was at 12. Backwashed the filter before the 1pm addition of LC. The picture below is the white stuff coming out of the filter every time I backwash for the past week. I’ve also included a picture of the pool from 2pm today. This is how it has looked for the last week with zero noticeable change from day to day. Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated, as I would very much like to have our pool usable before the second month of “summer” is over for the kids.
