Still cloudy. If I wait a few days, I can see a bit of difference. We add about a cup of DE to the sand filter and then flush a few hours later to try to help it along. Is there anything else that I can do? If I get IN the pool I can see my foot on the bottom of the pool if I move it so it is pretty cloudy. Also the cloudiness seems to hang on to the bottom half of the pool more so than the top.

It only took me 3 or so weeks to get it from the land that time forgot to at least, cloudy blue with the overnight chlorine loss of .5

Are you trying to SLAM? If so 5ppm of FC is not enough. Please see here for directions --> SLAM Process

I don't know what your filter is like, but a *slightly* dirty filter works better than one entirely clean. Only backwash when your pressure goes up 20-25% over clean pressure. Good idea to use the DE, it really can help.

Could it be you need to SLAM. I just went through this last week. My water had gotten cloudy. I Tried cleaning the filter and running the pump/filter for about 5 days straight. The cloudiness remained, but my test numbers were all within acceptable limits. Then I did an OCLT and discovered I lost about 1.5 PPM of FC overnight.

After a little research I found an older Forum Thread that mentioned there was a chance that cloudiness was an early algae bloom. Maybe at some point my FC had dropped below what was required to my pool clear and algae free. (I checked my logs and my FC had indeed dropped around 1 - 2 ppm or so below the recommended level over a one or two day period) The thread suggested that in that short time, maybe an algae bloom had begun. But after testing and adding chlorine, my FC went up sufficiently to keep the bloom under control. And for a while, the thread continued, it would stay that way (cloudy but not getting worse). Eventually the comments in the thread indicated I would loose the battle and a full scale bloom would take over.AHA!!!

Started a SLAM Friday morning and by Saturday afternoon the water was crystal clear again. Kept it up, I passed the three requirements early this morning:

  • CC is 0.5 or lower;
  • You pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
  • And the water is clear

I'll probably go another day or two to be sure.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth.
