Hi there! I’m new to this group and painfully new to owning a pool. We recently bought a house and after we moved in we started to try to get the pool levels where they needed to be. (10k gallon/in ground/ Cartridge filters/ pebble tec finish)So of course, being newbies, we headed to the pool store. We bought the stuff suggested to us according to the water sample that we brought them. So fast forward a couple weeks, and several trips to Leslie’s. A friend of my husbands suggested we buy our own test kit and so we did that. Then I came across this group! After reading several posts, we were able to get our water within normal ranges
That’s the background, now here’s my dilemma: We wanted ti do something about the awful looking stains that were on the sides and bottom of the pool so I tried the ascorbic acid test which seemed to work in the spot I tested it on. So we were all in at that point in doing the treatment. We lowered the chlorine, and PH and started with 1 lb of AA. We didn’t notice much of a difference after an hour or so, so we added more. And then more. I took the directions on here as meaning that if you don’t see a difference, then add more until the stain is gone, but after a total of 5 lbs, we just said enough. We did add an algaecide prior to the AA and then added a sequestrant about 12 hours after the last bit of AA. As far as the stain removal, we just cut our losses and started trying to get our levels where they need to be. I started by adding soda ash to raise PH and Alk and several hours later began to add chlorine (3inch jumbo tabs from Leslies)set at a 1 . After several hours, I bumped it up to 2, because I was kinda fearful about the amount of time having no chlorine. The pool had started getting cloudy and according to my testing(HTH 6-way test kit) ( I know we need the Taylor testing kit but $$ is tight right now with all the Crud we’ve spent on this pool
) I needed to raise the PH and Alk more so I added more Soda ash. When I tested this morning, the Alk was at 100 but the PH had dropped from 7.2 to 7.0. Chlorine still 0. So in reading some other posts, I decided to go get some borax and added about half of a box( calculated with “pool calculator “) The water is still SUPER cloudy, like I can’t see the second step. What should my next steps be? I feel like I’m completely screwing this up and my husband is about to have a fit.
Current test:
Total Chlorine-0
PH-7.3
TA-110
Total hardness- 270
Couldn’t get CYA- I didn’t have enough solution
