Hello all,

I recently bought a house with an inground pool. Seller disclosed there was a pink slime issue early summer but that it got taken care of and never came back. I had a my local pool company close the pool early October. That pool company sent an email to open pool covers to make sure there is no algae issues ( Maryland has had very warm weather lately). I opened my cover and found what looks like jellyfish resting at the bottom of my pool and coming up the sides. Is this white water mold? How do I go about fixing this? Do I need to " open" my pool again so that I can vacuum to waste?

Also wanted to ask if this is a continuation of the pink slime issue, or if that is unrelated?

Thanks in advance!

It is a inground chlorine pool. I am not sure what winter chemicals the pool company used when they closed it. I do know that they added some extra amounts of chemicals to aid in keeping the pink slime from coming back before I open the pool in spring.

You have pink mold with a chlorine pool? I thought for sure you were going to say Baquacil...........hummmmmmmm will have to do some thinking on this one. I know chlorine can/will kill it. You will have to open the pool back up to do it though. Can you call your closer and ask them what they put in your pool to close it?

That is what the seller said... He said he had Pink Slime in the pool in early June, due to misuse of a solar cover ( not taking it off during the day and not having enough circulation of water). He then was told to shock it with non chlorine shock. I was able to obtain info on his account at our pool store and it looks like he had to use 4X the amount of a normal shock treatment.

As of right now, there is no Pink Slime, but there is a lot of white water mold. Ill try to attach a picture of the one side of my pool. I will also attach a picture of the shock he used to treat the pink slime ( according to his account at my pool company)

I will call the company tomorrow to find out what winter chemicals they used, and I will update you!

What test kit do you have? You need to have a good test kit - the TF-100 Test Kits or Taylor K-2006C to figure out your water chemistry and treat your problems. Pool Test Kits - Further Reading

Do you want to tackle this problem now or just leave it for spring opening? The fix is likely to take a bunch of liquid chlorine added daily and could take a few weeks. It is not a toss some stuff in the pool and stir it around fix.
