hi, given the work to open this year, I am thinking the guys I paid to close last year didnt do a great job.
i looked at pool school and although detailed instructions are given, it doesnt seem to explain what to do when closing in canada where we get deep freeze for at least 4 months of winter.

aka - how to blow air out of lines, where and how much antifreeze to add, etc.

is there already a "close inground pool in canada" instruction set elsewhere?

obviously it is not important that I figure this out today, but i would like to close myself if it's within the realm of the possible

Yes, you CAN do this.

Our instructions are not Canada-specific, but cover all situations across the country where severe freezes are expected. The concept is the same. Look at these:
Pool School - Closing (Winterizing) Your Above Ground Pool
Pool School - Closing an In Ground Pool

Since pools have different set-ups, come back here in the fall when you start to prepare to ask about specifics. Or you can search from the forum page and you'll see tons of closing advice that covers everything from skimmer protection, covers, evacuating plumbing, antifreeze, and much more.
