Clogged chlorine generator

The chlorine generator is clogged with limescale. I tried soaking it in mineral water hoping the carbonic acid would be gentle enough yet effective. I got lots of fizz, but there was still alot of limescale after I'd used three 500ml bottles.
I then tried lemon juice and soaked it for several hours. Still only partly effective.
What's the best way to clean the thin metal plates of limescale?

Depending on your brand of SWCG, it may state to use vinegar or dilute muriatic acid. Check your owners manual.

Your SWCG should never get lime scale on it. Following proper water chemistry protocols will prevent it.

How do you test your pool water chemistry?
