Currently we have a pool service weekly. I'm not happy with the results, so what are the better items for cleaning?

If I buy a robot, do I need to have a vacuum, brushes, nets, etc? Currently we have nothing because the prior owner just gave up on maintenance unless it absolutely had to be done.

I've had fun cleaning and maintaining my own pool and actually have my teenager takeover most of it now......This website helped me as well as my teenager. I pretty much had done a decent job until last year when I decided to drain the pool (finally...LOL). There's a kit here that you can buy and you can test your own water to save the drive. The folks here will guide you. Besides, brushing your pool is a good workout. We don't add anymore of the powdered shock, we test every week since it's above 90 degrees here now. We have a robot that takes care of the bottom dirt and we could make it brush as well if we want but like I mentioned, brushing your pool might just add more guns in your arms...LOL!. I let the skimmers to the surface work work but still have pockets of dirt here and there.
All in All....brushing manually is always good (don't care if the robot can do it as well but won't be as good as you), the net is a must in case you have some debris that you'd rather take out right away instead of waiting for the skimmer to do it for you, and if you buy a robot, you don't to have a pump. There'a lot a good ones out there. More bells and whistles = more $$$

I have the test kit coming which will definitely help. I'm almost certain I have mustard algae in the spa, so I'll need a brush for that definitely.

Lots of learning to occur, and of course it'll all fall on me.
