Hi,

My wife and daughter went swimming in the ocean today and accidentally used their goggles that they usually use in our pool. What is the best way to clean them so that they can be used in the pool again?

I have a UV-C sanitizing device called the Phonesoap which says it kills 99.99% of household germs and bacteria. Maybe that would work to clean them?

I could just replace my wife’s goggles, but my daughter’s are very special to her and I can’t find replacements anywhere.

I’m currently dealing with an algae breakout that may have been from a friend swimming in a suit they had worn in a pond previously, so I don’t want to introduce anything else after this algae is eradicated.

Thanks,
Jared

If your pool is properly sanitized per FC/CYA Levels then all you need to do is rinse the googles in fresh water.
I had regularly used my scuba gear in my pool after being in the ocean and all I did was rinse it thoroughly. I never had an issue, in fact I was more concerned about rinsing it after it was in the pool, to ensure I got all the chlorine water off of it.

If you had a recent algae event then you probably need to re-evaluate your level of chlorine that you maintain on a consistent basis. In other threads on the forum, it has been seen that if you are just at the minimum based on the CYA chart then you could have an issue which is why the chart gives a recommended target FC to maintain to prevent slipping down.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice.

Herman, I have been using the PoolMath app and adding chlorine daily to get to the number that the app suggests. But when I look at the FC/CYA Chart it looks like the PoolMath amount is in the middle, so I am going to try going for the higher end amount once I eradicate the current algae problem.
