So I had a leak in the main drain, having a heck of a time finding someone to fix it then went away for a week. So now the pool is almost empty. SO I am taking advantage and cleaning it. I am power washing the sides. Do I need to have it acid washed as well. I figure I should paint it while I have it empty.
what kind of paint to use ?

Paint doesnt last very long. Are those cracks under the coping or repairs?

So it won’t be worth painting? Yes, there are cracks under the coping. That is another thing I want to work on while empty
You’ll likely have to redo the paint every couple years if you do use paint. They just don’t last like they used to. It really needs to have the cracks repaired and then be re-plastered if you want to refinish it.

The main drain issue can be one of two problems. Either the hydrostatic valve which is the easier of the two and just change it while the pool is empty or it's the plumbing which is underground and not fixable if you can't get to it.

Once it’s empty I am going to fix it. I’d rather not abandon it.
One note of caution: as the plaster dries out from being empty, the likelyhood of more cracks and further damage goes up. Don’t leave it empty for any longer than necessary unless you plan on replastering before filling it back up.

Thanks for all your replies and I’ll get it fixed and refilled ASAP. I do not know whether it’s the hydrostatic valve for the pipe last year when it started leaking it’s stop at about a few inches under the skimmer opening which led me to believe it was a pipe. It didn’t leak all winter or all spring and then I opened it up got the pool riding it was fine then all of a sudden it started leaking again then it would stop then it would start leaking again and then it leaked all the way out which leads me to believe it’s a hydrostatic.

Are you sure its not leaking out of a waste valve at the equipment pad?
