Decided I needed one. Of course they are on backorder. It appears to be a piece of pipe, with two union fittings. To avoid lugging my cell to the hardware store, are these standard union fittings?

Isn't the cell just a version of the Hayward cell. I'm guessing you could find a Hayward or generic bypass pipe without having to rely on the CircuPool brand. Maybe researching generic cells for your chlorinator will point you in the right direction.

I ordered one recently from discount salt pool no backorder even though circupool showed backorder on their site.

I believe so as well. I have a dummy cell at home but I'm away at the moment. It's just threaded on the ends so that you can attach it to the existing unions already in place for for the SWG.

RJ45+

I'll check out discount salt pool, too....
2 min later....on back order there also....

It would be a modest help in cutting and gluing plumbing for my install, hence hoping for hardware store items. Won't really need it until Oct. for pool shut down.....and even then, will just be a nice to have item.

The bypass pipe is there if you need to take it out for an extended time or if you didn't want to stop the equipment from running. Speaking from my own experience the cell is just like a bypass pipe if the power is off for winterization. You can leave it in its place and nothing will happen to it. I have many pools with it and found it just one more thing to be busy with when closing and opening so I just leave them and keep the power off. If your water will be balanced well you can go seasons without cleaning them but some people just don't care enough and only care when they run them dead and have trouble.

Being Minnesota, methinks discretion is the better part of valor, and remove it for the 6 months of real winter here. While I'm pretty good about getting all the water out of everything for all my outdoor toys (pool, lawn sprinklers, RV, Boat), probably not great to subject it to many days of -20 or -30F. Having an open system over the winter is no issue, per se. But it would be nice not to find it all plugged with a rodent nest come spring....so maybe screen over the open pipe ends, if the bypass doesn't come by then.

I bring all my equipment inside for the winter. (For me, it's designed to withstand the elements but I'd never leave several thousand dollars in a snow drift either).

I use rubber winterizing plugs on the open ends towards the pool. Then they get bagged and taped to ensure no animals chew them out. Mostly my dogs, but any others also.
