Chlorine test

just getting started with my new kit. when doing the chlorine drop test the result was no chlorine. So I assumed I didn't have to continue and do the free chlorine test. is that correct? also the same water I tested for chlorine that was clear last nite and left in the cylinder was pink this morning. Could the reaction have been that slow?

It's normal for the water in the cylinder to go pink after standing. However, you should always dump and rinse your cylinders after use.

Did you add chlorine and redo your test after 30 min of mixing? What was your FC then?

If the OTO test shows no chlorine at first & "later" shows chlorine that can indicate you have combined chlorine. By "later" I mean maybe 5 minutes. Go ahead and test for FC & CC.

Welcome to TFP! No pink certainly means no chlorine. At that point you drop everything and grab some liquid chlorine right away. If you post all of your test results we can better guide you from there. If the water is already hazy or you see green when brushing, algae has already started. Thanks for the responses. Haven't started slamming yet. i'm going out to get more bleach before I start so i have enough. ph was 7.5 and CYA was 70.
