I went back through my records and graphed the chlorine added by my Stenner pump and also manual additions. You can see the spikes when the chlorine was added manually. When there is no entry, no chlorine was added that day and the Stenner pump was just cut off. I took the pool to shock in late Feb 2018 because of a heat wave. The water temp got to 62 degrees and I took it to shock levels. CYA which was zero and was taken to 40 in Feb. CYA was kept in the 40-50 range thereafter for the rest of the season. July and August the pool was uncovered. Most of the rest of the time there was a solar cover in place. My total ppm chlorine added for the year was 500 ppm. That includes all that was used for shock + daily maintenance. Some of the shock was for heavy swimmer loads and some was to get the chlorine level back up because I let it go low. The shock levels were not used for algae as there never was any visible algae or cloudiness. The first and last entry were shock levels of chlorine for opening and closing. Using PoolMath, 500 ppm sums to 70 gallons of 6% bleach for a 14,000 gallon pool. I have down in my records 80 gallons, but used some bleach non pool purposes.

I've said before that I only adjusted my Stenner 3 times. But going through the records, it looks like it had 8 different settings during the 2018 season. The second graph removes the manual chlorine shocks and the Stenner off days. This shows only the Stenner settings in daily ppm added and may be easier to read.

Great information.

Only real difference with the common pool owner is the cover on the pool during the summer. That is not typical in most areas.

Take care.
