Chlorine levels v TF Pro kit

Hey all,

Just got my TF-Pro Salt kit and am loving the ability to get better and consistent results. A question tho.

Recommended CYA levels are 70-80 and the respective recommended Cl levels are 5-10/6-11. But the Cl and pH testing block in the kit only reads up to 5 for Cl. For daily testing how am I supposed to figure out how much Cl I have?

I see the Cl Drop test listed as “weekly” under the instructions. Does this just become my daily test and I ignore the Cl testing block unless the levels get low?

Hey Todd and welcome.

Ignore the OTO testing for chlorine in the block comparator. Use the FAS-DPD test for your chlorine.

Yes. Just ignore the block.

The FAS/DPD with a 10ml sample is what you want. A 0.5ppm resolution is fine and will save on reagents.

pH blocks all come as double sided with either OTO, DPD or CyA, I guess the OTO reagent comes with the block so they may as well include it.

FC levels tend to be quite stable with a SWG. Once you get the hang of testing you can use the OTO every second day just to confirm that you have plenty of FC. You’d be looking for a bright yellow verging on orange. If it’s anything other, out with the FAS/DPD and think about adjusting the SWG.

Store buying some CYA (wanted to get it right over the weekend and it was my only option). The guy in the store was asking me why I was trying to hit such a high level and as I was telling him, another customer was like “wait what?”. Told him about this site and hopefully got another person on the right path.
