Hello, recently this check valve on an infinity pool has been making a pulsing or ticking sound. When I close the ball valve it stops. Is this a sign that it's bad and allowing water to flow back? I can see the red flap inside the check valve pulsing a bit.

Sorry for the late answer. How old is the pool/equipment? My gut says you are on the correct path in thinking it might be bad.

Is the second picture with the water flowing? It is nearly closed. BTW, you should never close that ball valve with the pump running. You can damage the pump.
