Check valve from spa replacement help

I bought a new check valve because my spa was draining and a pool company said it was a bad check valve.

I replaced the check valve…but I’m not sure i did it the right way. I put it in both positions (arrow up and arrow down) , when i turn the spa on the level lowers dramatically so i think i messed up with the check valve position. It’s only 1 of 2 ways right? I’m baffled

I leave for a week long cruise tomorrow and was hoping to fix this issue before i left ugh.

Arrow needs to be down. Water flows down this pipe to the spa.

You should see the flap open when the pump is on.

Installing it the opposite way will stop the water from flowing into the spa when the pump is on and draining it.

This valve looks to be installed the wrong way.
