Got angry at how the plastic on my $100+ "reel" degraded due to UV, so I built my own with one visit to Home Despot.
Diagram and parts list attached, and photo of final product attached below that. - The rod in this case is a metal pipe, and the fittings on each end of the metal pipe are there simply to keep it from sliding off.
Should be self-evident, but the horizontal sections slide into the horizontal frame tubes, replacing the metal 90-degree angles that are provided by Intex.
Needs paint, but works fine.
My "crank" is just a metal 90-degree angle on the end of the metal rod with a short 5-inch section drilled with a hole for a wooden handle with a bolt through the middle.
