Hi,
I have a homegrown chemical dispensing system that has 2 15-gallons tanks. I originally set it up as 1xChlorine and 1xMuriatic acid pumps. However, after last season I found that my Intellichlor easily took care of the chlorine levels in the pool but I consistently needed more acid. Hence, I'd like to change my chlorine tank over to a 2nd acid tank.

I already rinsed out the chlorine tank twice and have let it sit for a couple of days (with the top open) for the past few days.

In trying not to create mustard gas, should I do anything else to neutralize any remaining chlorine in the tank before adding the acid?

much thanks!

So, just a correction for those interested in details, but chlorine gas and mustard gas are not the same thing. Adding acid to bleach creates chlorine gas. Mustard gas is an organic compound containing chlorine and sulfur.

As for your tank, it should be triple-rinsed and allowed to fully dry out. Sounds like you’ve done that. If you’re really concerned it’s not cleaned out, you can add some ascorbic acid to the tank and rinse it well. AA neutralizes chlorine. All tubing in and out of the tank and through the metering pump needs to be discarded and replaced. Any check valves or duck-bill valves should be removed and cleaned.
