Change to vs pump

Decided it’s time to change my old 2 hp single speed pump. I bought the house last August it and pool were built 1992. The pump looks like a Hayward but the original owner switched the motor to some commercial pump motor that is an energy hog. So I decided for fun to go to the pool store to get a quote. He asked pool size and recommended a Pentair SuperFlo VS. I also asked about changing out two old PVC ball valves that are very tough to move with a three way for the skimmer main drain and pump. The guy told me a three way valve is too complicated to use I just need “quality” ball valves that I can change the guts on then quoted a thousand for the pump and 400 for install. I know I can get pump for 600. Then told me I need to change my sand and should consider glass beads. I said thanks for quote and left. I may try this myself I think I can do the pvc pipe it’s the electrical I don’t know about. Wonder if I should get a pump find an electrician to hook it up and do plumbing myself.

w,

Anyone that would recommend ball valve has no clue... A three way Jandy valve would also be my choice.

Sand never needs to be changed, but if you did, it would be with new sand and not "magic" glass beads...

What size plumbing do you have at the equipment pad?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Plumbing is 1 1/2 inch. I went to a second pool store when I pulled in it was an immediate danger Will Robinson moment when I saw about 40 boxes of 4 gallons of LC stored outside the store. I asked about pumps they asked what I had and gave me a price for similar. I asked about VS they looked at me funny I just walked out.
