Hi everyone. I haven't posted here in quite awhile because my pool is always perfect!!! Thanks to you!!!!!! But....

Like much of the country we got incredible rain the past week. I have been draining, testing, adding bleach and acid and waiting for it to be over. Opened the pool end of April and after some minor adjustments of CYA, pH, and FC everything was perfect and stayed that way until these storms. I did a full test of the pool this morning (bought all new testing chemicals at the beginning of the season so they aren't old):

FC 2.5
CC 0
pH 7.5
TA 100
CH 175
CYA 10 or less

I assume draining 8+ inches out of the pool in the past weeks took my CYA and CH away? I haven't encountered variation in CH or TA before, so am not sure how to go about fixing all this.

Pool Math says lower pH and aerate for the TA, 2 gal stabilizer for CYA, and 26! lbs of Calcium Chloride. That part doesn't make sense to me. Where did the Calcium go?

I think I have to head to the pool store and get some Calcium Chloride and Stabilizer. It isn't close by, so I'd like to buy whatever I need in one trip. Does the CYA, TA and CH have any direct relationship that would affect what I decide buy from the pool store? Am I going to have to fix one thing, test, and then go back to the store?

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!

Exactly. Now you need to focus on some simple items at the moment ...
- Get the CYA back up to at least 30 with stabilizer. You can grab some at Walmart or any local place that sells pool supplies.
- Increase your FC to about 5 and remember to always keep the FC balanced as noted on the FC/CYA Levels.
- Don't mess with the TA right now. You can even allow the pH to rise to the upper 7s for now.
- I would get some calcium and increase to at least 250. The Recommended Chemicals link in my signature will help with that.

Gotta put a thanks out here for your help.

I fixed the CH easily, PoolMath was exact! My CSI is even better than before because I left it in the lower range.

The CYA was way off, not sure what happened. I couldn't get liquid stabilizer so had to get the solid. I added 2 lbs and CYA went from 10 to 25, then put 4 more lbs in some socks and hung them in front of a strong return. I'm so glad I tested the CYA later in the day because it shot up to 50 in 4 hours. I think about 50% was gone out of the socks, so that was 2 lbs. Maybe I underestimated how long it takes for everything to get really mixed in. That answer doesn't make total sense to me, but this is the first time PoolMath and I have had a disagreement, so that's ok. Next time I'll be more patient with my pool pump.

Always wait at least 24 hours after all the CYA is dissolved from the sock before testing you CYA level.

I'm glad I didn't wait 24 hours for the socks to be empty. I would have had to replace water. I really don't know how I was so off with PoolMath. I love the app btw, it is so easy to track what was added, why and when.
