Census Poll on Intex Users

I hope I have posted this in the correct place. New Intex pool owner here, actually waiting on the freight company to call so I can meet them at home with the pool. I got the Ultra Frame 18x52 kit with a 2100 gal sand filter pump. I am getting ready to prep the ground for it and had a question about that. I plan to follow this plan that I got from the forum....

1. Choose area, use a can of marking paint to paint a circle 2' larger that your pool. ie 18' pool = a 20' circle.
2. Cut sod off and dispose of. (if you do not do this it rots and stinks terrible)
3. Attached a 4' level to a 10' 2" x 6" pegged to the middle of the circle.
4. Swing board in a circle trimming away any high spots and filling in any low spots.
5. Tamped entire area with a hand tamper. (lots of work, rent a plate compactor it goes alot faster and not as hard on the back and shoulders.)
6. Put down 1 1/2" or 2" styrofoam (the pink stuff). Tape the seams with Gorilla tape. Cover it all with a HD tarp. (don't use the tarp that they send with the pool, get a good HD one)
7. Setup pool, place 1 1/2" or 2" pavers/patio blocks under the legs.
8. Fill pool with 2-3" of water and smooth all wrinkles out.
9. Fill up the pool with the rest of the water.
10. Test water with your new TFTest kit (you did order one right?) use results on The Pool Calculator and add BBB (if needed) to your Pool.

My question is when do I add sand...on top of the pink styrofoam? The pavers, styrofoam, and sand should all be level correct? For example if I covered it all with a layer of sand you should not be able to see the pavers or styrofoam correct?

I am so glad I found this forum but I am still a little nervous about getting the install right the first time. Did I choose a good pump to pool combination?

Bought my first metal frame set in 2005
Bought my second metal frame (12 foot) set in 2008

As most members on this forum, I upgrade the pump.

I've got a 2,500 gph Intex pump.

This year I successfully upgraded from 1.25 hose to 1.5 hose.

Two parts are needed for the 1.25-1.5 upgrade:
Plungers and adapter valves

Plungers came with the pump.

Buyer beware: Some of the dealers on Amazon remove parts of the pumps, especially the plungers.
For this reason, I ordered my pump from a certified Intex dealer, Quality Inflatables.

Adapters were ordered separately from Intex. (Approx $7.00 with shipping)

The plunger valve assembly is heavier than the original attachment. We secure it to the pool rails with poly hose. No cutting of the liner was needed.

Thats kinda the same thing we did KleanKiddiePool,,but we have a 12 x 3ft intex pool,,and the pump we got with it is , well rubbish
So we went ahead and bought a 1500ghp,now the inlet holes in the vinyl were too small for this new pump, and the local pool shop recommended making the holes bigger verse using the adapters,,due to the adapters being smaller ,we wouldnt get the proper flow through them.
So anyway,,we cut it out, but its leaking a little, enough to be irritating, and i noticed where the gaskets are on each side, there not totally flush, and i think where the wall was cut ,there may not be totally round....oh fun days..lol

After lots of trial, error and frustration, I have found a pretty good way to vacuum an Intex pool. The vacuums you connect to a garden hose are worse than useless. Even with a true vacuum system, if all you have are the standard paper filters, most of what you vacuum out flows right back into the pool. So you need some way to vacuum to waste.

This method is simple and has worked well for me. You will need a vacuum hose, a vacuum head and a pole to attach them to. 1. Fill the hose with water by holding it in front of the return. 2. Remove the strainer or skimmer from the outlet that leads to the pump and connect the hose to it. 3. Turn off the pump and disconnect the hose where water flows into the pump and let the water run out onto the ground. 4. The suction created will allow you to vacuum to waste, permanently removing that crud from your pool.

The suction will usually be enough to keep the hose connected to the outlet without physically attaching it. If not, there are several ways to attach the hose with various adapters. My vacuum hose fits my skimmer adapter pretty well, so that is what I use.

Hello All, New to the forum and new to intex pools (or pools in general). I purchased a new in box 15' x 42" intex frame pool from someone on Craigslist, saved lots of $$$ there. I have been doing a little research and found that there were a lot of complaints about the intex pump/filter that comes with the pool. I heard of some people upgrading to a Hayward Pump and Sand Filter. Well, went out yard selling with my wife last weekend and found a 1 hp Haward pump and 18" Sand Filter for a real good price (too cheap to pass up). I also just picked up a SWG from BJ's for $159 yesterday. I am getting ready to set up the pool over the Memorial Day week and want to make sure I do this correctly. Has anyone here used a different pump and filter than the Intex and is there any recommendations on how to do the plumbing? Any help would be appreciated.

hayward is one of the best brands out there. should do very well on your pool. the bigger the better is generaly the best advice as far is filter is concerned. look for crookm11's post for advice on plumbing. he has done some very good work on his intex pool and the plumbing! :)

I do a search for his post, thanks for the reference.

Hello! I have the 18x52 Ultraframe pool with the saltwater system and pump. I also purchased the Intex 2100 gallon sand filter. How do I connect both of them together since the salt water system has a pump built in to it? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated...thanks! Don

did the sand filter come with hoses and plunger valves? When I upgraded to the 2500gph it came with new valves, thats why I ask. If so you could cut the pool liner and add a second intake and return. You could probably find 2 valves and hoses pretty cheap online.

So they cannot be used together somehow? I cannot use the saltwater system with the sand filter?

I had to buy a new intex this season, Seems I have mice that like my shed.

My old pool was the 15x3 my kids are a bit taller so I grabbed the 15x4 this time around.

The first thing I noticed was that they had eliminated the restraining rope that goes over the bottom of the legs.

That rope seemed so important on my older model, At least thats what I thought.
I wonder why its not needed with the newer version. Everything else is the same so I cant see how they eliminated it . But I guess its better .
