Hello, I have been restoring a pool that was filling in for the past 20 years. I replaced a cracked return fitting, pressure tested and backfilled but just came across something that states the return fitting is ABS. 🤦‍♂️It was white and I assumed PVC, these Carvin/ Jacuzzi fittings are glue in fittings so assuming its pvc I primed and glued with medium clear pvc cement. Should I dig this back up and replace with the proper transition cement? I think I know the answer but surprisingly I can't find much online about abs pool fittings and mixing with pvc. Perhaps it's not as common that the return fittings aren't threaded?

If the part is truly ABS, you need to use the transition glue. Without it, the PVC cement is only "gluing" the parts together instead of forming the true chemical weld that happens when the correct cement is used. It will fail without it. Above ground, you will see it, kick yourself, fix it and move on. Buried on the wall of a pool it can result is a severe leak that can damage the structure of the pool.
