My pool is green, obviously with algae. My test strips ( 3 different brands) say that PH is good, stabilizer is good, alkalinity is a little low @ 40, chlorine is high but not horrible. VInyl pool so hardness I've heard doesn't matter unless high. I'm just about to give up.

First thing to do is get a recommended test kit. Do that now. Link-->Test Kits Compared
Add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per day until the kit arrives.
You need the kit to perform the SLAM process. When the kit arrives perform the SLAM process to clear your pool.... Link-->SLAM Process
