Cannot tighten ring on sta-rite system 2 filter

Hi, I just had a 24 ft AGP installed and filled. I went to fill the filter, and it is leaking around the ring. I saw that the installer didn't use the small tube of silicon provided, so I applied it the best I could, but am unable to get the ring around to 'click' through the tab. I tried all evening, but I keep coming about 1/2 inch short. My question is, would getting more silicon and applying it freely help get the filter top to sit properly, or am I missing something else?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to TFP! Make sure the o-ring is not being pinched between the two halves of the filter. Once everything is lined up you may need to push the top of the filter down more firmly so it is well seated, then try to lock the ring in place.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I checked and the o-ring is not being pinched.

yes, I only lubed the ring itself. Should I do the base as well?

One thing I did notice, is that the filter will move a bit even after being put into it's spot. Move may not be the right word. It will tip from front to back. I kind of expected it to be more firmly in place.

ok, so with some help from my 10 year old and a rubber mallet, I was able to remove the lid, clean it, and resilicon the o-ring

I was able to put it back all the way. Now it i leaking. The water comes down the tank where the tabs are. (see pic

This is where the o-ring is:

I'm wondering if it should be here:

Any Suggestions ?
