Can I use a sealant to stop the drip?

Hi there, I just bought a house with existing pool. Got the pool opened a couple weeks ago and just noticed this drip. Can I use a sealant myself to fix or should I call in a pro?

The drip is from that cleanout? Hard to see with the small pic you posted.

Post some wider pics showing what that pipe is connected to. Where is it in the water flow?

If it is the cleanout that should unscrew. You can try wrapping some teflon tape around the threads to better seal it.

The plug has a Hayward symbol on it but I have never seen that type and in a pipe like that.

Is there sealeant already around the edge of it? It looks like sealant has already been put on it.

Looks like the plug from the bottom of a skimmer. It is threaded, so you can unscrew it and use some teflon tape or silicone on the threads to seal it and screw it back in. Turn the pump off first though.

For something like this, I would probably use PTFE paste, then covered with teflon tape. The paste does a good job of getting into the nooks and crannies that the teflon tape doesn't quite fill. Like vtpools said, pump off-remove plug-clean and apply sealant- reinstall-test. If using PTFE, my personal experience is to let it set a bit (a day?) before applying pressure.

Just a thought, if that's a skimmer plug, is it the same NPT size as that clean-out fitting, or is it maybe a little undersized and the proper sized fitting would work better?

I don't know why a cleanout T would be put between the filter and heater. The whole setup seems strange and not what is typically done for a pool.

Yes, at least it should be. Most Hayward (inground) skimmers have two threaded holes in the bottom, and they ship with the plugs to seal whichever opening isn't being used.

Couldn't tell you. I've seen things like that before, sometimes it's for a waterslide or a future solar heater setup. I agree they aren't a normal thing to have though.
