Can I tape or paint the bond wire?

The bond wire going to the heat pump is hard to see as it comes from underground to the heat pump. We're going to have some gravel put in all around the equipment pad, and I'm worried the bond wire is going to get cut/broken. Can I wrap it in colored electrical tape or spray paint it in a fluorescent color so it's more easily seen, or will that interfere with its function?

I can't see why painting a couple of feet at the end would cause any problems at all..

If you want to temporarily protect it and not tape it or paint it, you can use some split flex.
