Why does TFP recommend such high Ca levels in fibreglass pools? Most packets say 175-250 max for anything other than concrete or tiled pools?

We don't. Appropriate CH levels depend on more than the type of pool. The recommended levels are generally safe regardless of the pool's equipment.
