cal shock for slam

I need to add 4 lbs of shock calcium hypochlorite is what I am using. I have 2 pounds of 68% and 2 pounds of 73%. Can I add them at the same time? Should I add one kind then the other after a certain period of time to let it mix first. They are different brands. Need to Slam and I want to do it tonight. Thanks

Using cal hypo for a SLAM is not recommended. Realize your pool will likely cloud up using that much cal hypo at once.

You can add both at the same time. Though I would space out the additions a bit to try and keep the pool from going cloudy.

Please read SLAM Process

The SLAM Process is more than a 1-time addition. It's a process and that amount of cal-hypo will only add about 16 ppm FC to your water. I don't know what your CYA is but that's not exactly a lot for an entire SLAM. You're going to need liquid chlorine to do this right.

As far as the cal-hypo itself, there's no reason you cannot add them at these at the same time.

CYA 50
There is no need to "shock" a properly maintained pool.

Do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to rule out any nascent algae issue.

Post a full set of current test results from one of the recommended test kits. Test Kits Compared

I don’t have chlorine but I have the cal shock
22,000 galloons swg new glass i. filter etc 2 days ago

So I turned off the swg added 2 lbs of cal shock last night. Tons of dead algae on bottom. Assuming I have mustard algae.
Bought liquid chlorine today. Figured out the slam amount. After back wash vacuum and scrub added more to slam. just checked and added more chlorine to raise FC again. will test again when sun goes down and add more if needed and test for overnight loss tomorrow morning.
Cya is 45
PH is 8 I assume because Chlorine is high.
CC is .2
do I lower this during SLAM? or just ignore it for now?

Because my pool is clear and after SLAM last night dead algae was on the ground. I can't keep the FC up.
None of that sounds indicative of mustard algae. You've been regularly dipping below the minimum FC for your CYA so organics have had a chance to grow. Sounds like you've just been sitting on the verge of an all-out bloom but have been adding just enough chlorine to keep it from exploding. Following the SLAM Process will eradicate it completely so there's nothing left in the water to create an overwhelming FC demand and your SWG will be able to keep up again.

Okay, I think I understand. If I have FC high enough for slam today and do not have chlorine loss tomorrow, then do I add CYA to get it higher and balance the rest of the water levels again?
Trying to do the SLAM properly

Overnight chlorine test failed
last night
