Bullet hole through pool...

Yes you read that right. I'm not even sure if this is where to post this at. If not, Im truly sorry.

Here's the story. I'm going to try to make it as short as possible. I live in Ohio, winters are horrid here, so I admit I do not check the pool as often as I should during winter. I also live in the country, so guns are here. I have no idea how long it was like this. Luckily the water level was down further than the hole.

We were starting to remove the cover and I noticed a hole in the side of our 2 year old pool. After careful inspection, it went through the wall and liner on one side. (I'm going to skip past Law Enforcement coming out since what I am wanting to know is if we did this right.) The next day we went and got JB Weld epoxy, got a piece of aluminum and a piece of rubber and went to work. We banged the metal on pool side back in place, cut aluminum to where there would be no sharp corners and applied with JB Weld. Next we put the piece of rubber padding over top glued with spray adhesive. This was done to protect and keep from ripping liner further. We let everything set up and fixed hole in liner, replaced liner and uprights and filled it up. I have not put anything on outside of hole yet. I was thinking about flex seal stuff but wanted to check with you all first.

I'm worried we didn't do enough to it. The last thing I want is the pool to rust especially since it's so new. Thoughts? Comments?

Like I said, this is not posted to debate guns, etc. I want to know if there is anything else we should do.....

You did GOOD! I really like the rubber piece on the inside. When you patched the liner did you use two pieces? One to fit the hole and another one bigger to go over it? I would do that to double it up.

The outside..........I would spray it will clear coat and call it good.

I didn't use 2 only one, but I can. This was only Sunday that we did it. So I can put a patch over tonight when we vacuum and clean it out. Thanks for the feedback. Like I said 2 years old so I dont want rust for a long time.

Did you recover a bullet from the pool bottom?
I have a customer that has a hole like that in the side of his truck, and when I asked him who shot at him, he informed me that it was caused by him not moving his truck from behind the archery target that his girlfriend was aiming at!

Your pool looks brand new. Sorry this happened, but sounds like you have taken care of it!

You've actually done more than is required. Flattening the hole out and putting a thin piece of plate with the edges feathered over it was all that really needed to be done. I wouldn't even worry about doubling up on the liner patch.

Anything more than I've written above is just extra insurance. As for painting I'd find something close to matching the wall cover and just do your best to disguise it. Heck, your 10 year old might be able to do a pretty good job of matching the pattern. :)
