Bugs in water. What are they? What do I do?

My water is pretty well balanced. I am noticing over the last few weeks that there are thousands of very small bugs in the water. Has anyone seen these before? What can I do about them?

Skim a few and take a close up...we can probably ID.

Use your skimmer net to get them out for now...
They are incredibly tiny. I feel like they would pass through the skimnmer. Here are some photos and a video of as close up as I can get with my samsung phone.

Google Thrips and springtails. I had a battle with Thrips earlier this year. They were like yellow moving dots all over the pool, too small for even the ultra fine net. They left after a few weeks. Springtails are different I think, but also a pool nuisance.

Here in Toronto we get millions of very tiny bugs called midges. My pool looks like it is covered by a lawyer of floating black sand. The manual skimmer gets them, but they tend to pass through the skimmer basket and get caught by my paper cartridge filter. So if you have that type of filter you may want to hose it down.
