Is there a significant difference in the quality of bromine? I can buy 50 lbs. of Hydria Clear bromine tablets for $260. The same amount of bromine from In-The-Swim is $470. The Hydria Clear brand says it provides 65% available bromine; 30% available chlorine. The other brand says available bromine is 61%; available chlorine 27%. Both brands highly rated on Amazon. Why such a difference in price???

I didn’t think chlorine was used in a bromine pool? I’ve seen @duraleigh post about this in the past so maybe he’ll see your post.
I was surprised to see the "available chlorine %" in the bromine tablets myself, but that must be right because both bromine products listed "available chlorine" as a percentage along with the available bromine.

I always use liquid chlorine to shock our bromine pool. It's my understanding that that's perfectly okay.

Still scratching my head about the significant difference in price on the two 50 lb. buckets of bromine tablets I mentioned above..... seems odd the price would be that far apart for the same product.

Sorry. I know that this is an old thread, but I am wondering the same. Which one did you choose? And have you noticed any difference?
Currently, I am running pool life, bromine advance, as that is what the previous owners have always used, but for about $100-$150 cheaper, I can get the hydra clear.

I bought the Hydria Clear. I haven't noticed any difference in this brand vs what we were using before. If the available bromine/ chlorine are almost the same I don't see why the cheaper product would be inferior.

Small differences in the composition of bromine tabs really have no effect on how well they work. They all contain DCDMH in the forms 1-Bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin and 3-Bromo-1-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin both of which contains both bromine and chlorine Slight differences in the amounts of the two variations of DMDCH and the amount of binder can account for the slight differences in amounts of available bromine and chlorine. Usually the amount of DCDMH is between 96 to 98 percent. What is more important to the level of bromne in the water is how fast they dissolve and that depends on their binder formulation. Since floaters and feeders are adjustable this is really a moot point.
