Broken Nipple

Hello Everyone,
I hope all are safe. I have a problem and I am asking for low cost options. A nipple broke off when I went to fix a leaky pump in the middle of January. It was very brittle. I have attached a picture. I am thinking of drilling it on and adding a hose barb. What are my options? Any suggestions?
thanks,
John

Welcome to TFP.

That should be screwed into the T and you should be able to unscrew it.

Once you get it unscrewed measure the size of the hole. It may be 3/4".

If it is glued, you can drill it partially. Start with a 1/2" drill bit and be very careful to center it. If you gouge into the side of the fitting it will snap the tee and then you have a parts list. Follow with a 5/8" bit, even more carefully. Use a dremel tool sanding drum to open it up to the inside surface. You can glue a 1/2 inch male slip fitting into this, but you may have to sand out the tee a bit with the dremel to get a fit. Tedious and painstaking, but those are somewhat pricey specialty parts to replace if you can fix it in an hour with a $2 nipple.
I have drilled and tapped them for a 3/8" threaded barb, but that plastic is pretty thin and brittle, as you have seen, and I had issues before long.
Best of luck.
