Brand new to pools not chemistry :)

Spent alot of time yesterday vacuuming. I am able to run the filter a while now before it fills. Progress, tile on second step now visible.

More vacuuming and more bleach another 11 gallons down. I tried the swg and it said it was functioning and I have 2900 ppm salt so I may not really have to add alot once I am done. Will take another pic tomorrow for the ol scrap book.

I also saw that the pump that controls the cover has no oil gonna get some hydraulic oil and hope to get lucky. I work with a few guys that may know a little about that in case it isn't functional. It's like roulette over here you win some you lose some haha.

Found this tonight? Murky but it could be a light, if not any idea? Pool is looking better daily. Hopefully I'll be in good shape in another week.

I grabbed TA and hardness tonight to start getting my water conditioned when I get done with the slam.

Thanks
Jared

That DOES look like a light! Oh yeah! Is your panel labeled? I would make sure it is turn off until we can have you work on it. (hint-we will have you take it out to clean behind it)

WOW that is even better! You are doing an awesome job!

Let there be a light! That is a light for sure. You'll probably want to pull the fixture out of the niche at some point to inspect it. If it's water tight and the light turns on, leave it sealed up. Just scrub behind the fixture in the niche with a toilet brush or something similar and put it back in the niche. Most light fixtures can be taken out of the niche by removing a single screw at the top of the ring and tipping the light outward. If you're lucky, the cord behind the light was left long enough for the fixture to reach the pool deck.

I dont think it works I really have no clue where the switch is. I suspect it is tied into the switch for the retaining wall lights. I watched a couple of vids and saw exactly how to take it out and check the gasket as you mentioned. That was a cool find. I keep hitting something in the deep end so I am not sure if there is a light down there or if its the drain. I saw that LED bulbs for that fixture are pretty spendy but I'll have to get one at some point, that's pretty cool.

Kim it is looking better for sure, it shouldn't be to long now. I know I am tired of spending large chunks of time on it. However I ran the filter for 8 hours straight with only a 5 PSI jump on the filter so it should get alot easier soon.

I plan on ordering a 25 lb box of CYA is there anything else I should try and order in bulk to make it cheaper. Thankfully I have still been reading around on here and saw that before I spent over 100 bucks on CYA in the consumer containers.

Filter is running pretty much non stop. I am only putting around 2 gallons of 10% bleach today and starting to see dead algae on the bottom of around half the pool. Cleaning time has now become alot more reasonable and I am replacing a couple outlets in the pool house. Feels good to make progress. I am now planning for chemical additions and will read a little before I ask the questions I have. I will verify with the few of you guys here that are posting before I proceed as you haven't steered me wrong yet. I put my foot on the first step in the water today and appreciated the clarity of that area.

For any lurkers the method these guys promote and love seems to be working out well for me. It's not hard just time consuming at first, with a swamp anyhow :). Of course mileage will vary with filter and size of pool.

It looks like I'll probably need 100 lbs of Calcium Chloride, dang. Trying to source that economically could be a problem in the summer.

Check to see if there is a breaker box in your pump room. Couldn't find mine either. It is on a GFCI breaker in the same breaker box as my pump out in my shop.

Everything in the pump area works. It was for that.

I prob should have put something more water proof in but replace once a decade is easy enough. That is approx 15 years old. I plan on putting some baby protectors over it when unused and see if that keeps whatever that is out. Edit: sent the pic to a coworker and he said dirt daubers are bad for that, which it looks like a dirt dauber type dwelling so we can go with it! Not sure, interesting either way. That outlet will power an amp that runs to some exterior speakers I hope work, so I wanted to have it cleaned up before I plugged in anything expensive.

On a more related note just keeps clearing up here and funny thing is my SWG on the panel suggest the same levels you guys recommend for all chemicals so that is pretty good validation of this forums chemistry.

Once everything is cleared up I am going to take the SWG cell off and see if it needs to be descaled. Not sure if it has any real use on it. Is there a manufacture date or lot number somewhere on it I can use to find out how old it is? Do they deteriorate just sitting?

Thanks
Jared

Progress AND less work??? OH yea! Love your feet on the first step to see how good it is all going to be!

Please DO ask any and all questions you might have. For sure check in before you do anything. If one of us do not answer in a while feel free to PM me and let me know you posted. There is a LOT of activity on the forum right now and I might miss your question.

I can see a shadow of the vacuum head at the bottom of the pool! I tried removing the light and cant budge the screw on it. I have a small screw driver here somewhere so I'll have to find that and see if I can get that screw out, not sure which way to turn the screw either youtube knows. Also some of the white plaster rubs off on my hand at various places I guess this is due to the pH, not a huge amount but it is happening. I also have a lovely red orange ring around the pool from the water level I'll figure out what that is eventually. All in all still a good day of cleaning. I grabbed a toilet brush and cleaned the wall steps which still had crud in them and a little alive algae I hadn't been able to remove with the big brush due to size. Sometime this week I will do a full barrage of testing again and grab my chemical needs. At that point I'll be asking order of addition questions and verifity amounts and any final checks before I dump. I hope to target next weekend for this but I have no background just a wish.

My SWG cell just in case anyone can tell me how old it is. I may call hayward and ask tomorrow.

Thanks
Jared
