Hello - First time pool owner here, located in Maryland, north of Baltimore. We just bought this house and pool this week, and I’m looking at the equipment. Any idea what this is?
Pool pump is currently running.

Welcome to TFP.
It may help if you post a photo of a wider view of your equipment pad to put this is into context.
Is this on your return side after a filter or a heater?
It appears to be an inline filter that may be used on a water feature line but hard to tell by just this image.

It's a Jandy Energy filter for a pressure side pool cleaner. The filter picks up small debris from the cleaner that runs on a venturi concept. There's stuff that can make it to your main filter and this grabs it before it gets there. When you go to empty it, release pressure in the equipment and use a long screw driver blade to twist and torque the underside of the plastic housing to open. Hose the filter off. Be aware that a loose reconnection will cause air in the system. Use pool lube on the O-ring and hand tighten only.
