Brand New Pool Owner Closing Pool?

Would you lower ph down a bit (cause it will continue to rise all winter if I understand correctly) to 7.4-7.6 or just leave it alone?

Winter Ph rise is in plaster pools. Fiber and Vinyl should more or less stay put.

It sure is a sad day. Both my pools were obnoxiously front and center from the dinner table by design, and it'll be smack in my face all winter that it's closed. Then to top THAT off, my Basset was digging in for traction on the cover and causing rips, so i had to fence it off. It's practical, but hideous.

I wish I would learn to leave "well enough alone". So had our pool closed yesterday. Two days Prior to that I added enough LC to bring up to slam level and checked the pool yesterday while pump was still running at which time I tested chemistry again and LC tested slightly higher than slam level at 24ppm. I thought great and was proud of myself for getting it about right......

Well today (with pool closed and pump not running etc) I get the bright idea to crack the cover open and take another water sample to verify the LC level. I did and it tested 13ppm (26drops)? I did the test twice to verify both times 13ppm. Now I'm struggling with what to do.....Was that test accurate with the water not being circulated? Should I disregard that test? Should I go get a submersible pump and add more chorine?

Another question, It is supposed to be mid 70's this weekend and next. Does it do any harm to open auto cover and give pool a good vacuuming (have a battery powered handheld vacuum that I use all the time) while the weather is still nice, or will this do more harm than good and lower my chlorine level?

Was that test accurate with the water not being circulated?

No. And the unmixed sample you grabbed still had plenty of FC.

You wouldn't lose much FC for the hour it took to vacuum. You could circulated
it further with a submersible pump and then top off the FC if needed.

But the 'one last hurrah' of warmer weather isn't a big deal. It's why you raised your FC to SLAM, and you won't lose much while covered.
