Boric acid

May be the wrong place to post and if there is another thread about this some where else I apologize, but I want to get my Borates up about 10 ppm. I have been using 20 Mule Borax , but read using boric acid would be a better option . I always thought boric acid was just to be used for a pesticide, not for the pool. Article said boric acid can raise levels higher with same amount, not effect ph very much, so no MA, and if certain metals are in the pool won’t interact like with Borax. If this is good information, what is a quality boric acid for the pool. Amazon has 2 5lbs of powdered boric acid, 99+ pure, technical grade for $35 sold by Duda Energy. I ran the numbers so 10 lbs should do it . Thanks

John, it is recommended to have 30-50ppm of borates in the water to reap the benefits.
For boric acid there are 2 kinds- powdered & granular.
Powdered is kind of a mess to get dissolved as it likes to sit on top of the water. Duda diesel is a good supplier. You can also purchase directly through their website- they offer more variations and sizes.

I always thought Borax was for laundry, baking soda was for cooking or cleaning and muriatic acid was for etching concrete. 🤷‍♂️

So yeah. :ROFLMAO:

I think the important take away here is that we aren't using spendy TA up, Ph Up, Pool optimizer, etc

Many (offsite) don't question what any of them are, they just spend lots more for the basic chemicals.

I’m testing around 30 which is fine, but figured will lose some to rain, splash out etc., so gonna up it to 40, maybe 50. Amazon said sold by Duda energy but clicking on the link takes you to Duda Diesel. Thanks for your reply.

Spent way more than I had to at the pool store.
I was Mineral Spring-ed at the pool store, which is like Inception level of dreaming in a dream. :laughblue:

It was so bad they were afraid to add anything that didn't specifically say it was formulated for Mineral Springs. So I was saved from the traditional poolstoring, but still spent more in the end.

The Mineral Springs were laced with boric acid by the way, and while I felt a difference between using borates and not using borates, it wasn't enough of a difference to justify the cost IMO, for me to use boric acid now. The TFP pool already feels amazing, both with salt and liquid chlorine.

Maybe if I had insane PH rise I'd change my mind.

😂 me too! I think at the time I started using 20 Mule Borax I needed to raise ph and alkalinity some and got tunnel vision and forgot about using boric acid if just wanting to up borates .
Less we we forget that regular ole bleach was not the same as liquid chlorine😳😂. When I first started I think 10% bleach at the grocery store was 1.75 a gallon. 3.50 10 % Liquid Chlorine at pool store. My Walmart now has 10% 5.67. Pool store 12.5% almost 15.00
