Borates and Closing Kits

With the season coming to an end. Following the methods here and possibly using a Poly60 during the winter, if I currently still have about 30ppm of Borates in the water, I am assuming I can rely on that vs using a Poly?

My second question is about the closing kits. Lets take In TheSwim for example. It contains bags of non chlorine shock, metal free, pool magic spring & fall + phos free, and a winter pill.

So could you explain why one would use non chlorine shock for winter? a metal free while closed? IDK what pool magic even is, but assuming the added phos free to is to just help as an insurance with algae growth, and no idea what the winter pill is supposed to do.

Any explanations would be appreciated. NOTE I do not plan on using it but I am always curious what they do and what their purpose is and why its frowned upon. Thanks all.

Pool store magic is frowned upon because it's magic, which isn't real. TFP doesn't add anything to the pool water that isn't needed. Especially magic.

Doubt you'll get anyone here to explain any of that stuff, since there's no reason to use it, and again, magic isn't real.

Follow the TFP closing methods and you will be fine.

The algecidal (is that a word?) properties of borates are, at best, speculative. I would suggest you not rely on that in ANY WAY.

Many use polyquat 60 upon closing with good effect. Others use nothing but SLAM value FC.

For the best chances of a Spring opening to clear water, let your water temp get below 60 before you close.
