I "interviewed" them when making my initials selections. While I never asked about receiving them during the interview process, they did mention they don't hand out renderings during the design phase because people take a good design and go to another builder. That's understandable, I guess. I was told that once the contract was signed there would be no problems in providing them. I actually had a couple of companies mention this in some fashion during the process.
Once signed, that however is your design. I didn't go with any of those vendors for different reasons, but that might be a driving factor. If you are uncomfortable already, I'd say move along.
