I live in central NC. I leave my pool open year round. Freeze protect runs through my pool plumbing except for my waterfall feature. When this is off, gravity keeps water likely well below frost line (12 inches below ground) I would think. I do not like to run pump through water feature on freeze protect since I have to run pump at higher RPMs. So my question, do I really need to blow out water feature line in winter since the water I believe is mostly underground and likely of minimal impact

Water can pool in elbows above the frost line and freeze and crack the pipe when the pump is not running.

looking at my plumbing, any elbow would be below the frost line. Here in NC we get freezing temps at night but almost universally above freezing during day.

Waterfalls often have a 90 at the top where the vertical pipe connects to the horizontal waterfall and that is where water pools and it cracks.

Cool - I’m going to try to blow the whole line out but maybe I’ll just work with a shop vac to try to get the water sucked out at least to below ground level

Good luck. How are you going to know if all the water is out?

The cost of a Cyclone Blower is less then a pipe repair in a waterfall wall.
