Biting insects in pool water?

It seems like every time I swim I get little insect bites. Nothing serious, just like a mosquito bite. I thought they were from some kind of small flying insect I couldn't see, but just now I got a bite under my swim suit. It could be that something like an ant had crawled inside the swim suit which was hanging outside to dry, but is it possible there is some stinging insect in the pool water?

Could a noseeum get inside my swim suit?

Maybe … they’re pretty tiny. Plus, if you’re leaving clothes outside, bugs of all kinds can find them attractive. Maybe use the indoor dryer for a while.

Noseeums line up to their name … you never see them coming or going but they certainly let you know they’ve been by to visit.

I did a google on "biting bugs in swimming pool". There are articles about Water Boatmen and Back Swimmer bugs, and others. I never heard anything about these bugs. I don't see any bugs in the pool. I keep the pool pretty clean. Has anyone here ever had problems with biting bugs in their pool?

Typically speaking, biting insects will leave a very distinctive and localized reactions where they bite. Usually one sees a raised red area or other signs of a bite mark. Diffuse flat rashes tend to be the sign of bacterial skin infections or chemical irritation.

Best to check with a physician if it keeps happening.

Exactly what I have. I don't need to see a doctor to know it is bug bites. My only question is what kind of bugs and what to do about it.

Maybe it's lice or bedbugs or something.

Maybe contact a pest control specialist for advice.

Maybe they will need to fumigate your house or do some other treatment.

Maybe contact a local entomologist to see if they can investigate the situation and identify the insects.

There really isn’t much you can do about bugs around a pool. Noseeums are basically found in every continent and latitude on the planet. There’s no avoiding them. If you’re outdoors and around the pool, use some form of personal bug spray on your skin. If the bugs are things like water boatman (Corixidae) or back-swimmers (Notonectidae), there’s not much you can add to the water to get rid of them. I’ve used SKILL-IT algaecide to fix a wasp problem with my pool but I have no idea if that would work on water bugs. If it’s ants in your pants, then stop leaving your clothes outside.

Pretty much all that can be said about it …
