Hi Everyone,

We had some concrete work done around the pool because it started cracking and leaning in the first year. They tried to be clean in their process but hey left a lot of concrete dust and chunks in the pool. What is the best way to clean this? I’ve always tried (gently) vacuuming. I left the big chunks alone as I know they could puncture the liner. The dust settles back in the pool even after vacuuming. Any recommendations?

A wet suit??? Sorry  okay how deep is it there? I wonder if you could rig up a "grabber" tool to reach down there to pick up the big pieces?

Next would be a shop vac with an extended hose to get down there. Put something on it like a pole taped to it to help guide it down there. Once the hose is right over the rocks turn on the vac. Once any of the rocks are in the hose, quickly raise the hose so it is pointed up to keep the rocks in it while someone else turns off the vac to stop it from sucking in any more water and getting over filled.

Good luck!

Lol! We actually talked about a wetsuit! No thanks! I’ll try the shop vac. I may also try to buy a grabber thingy on amazon or something. Ugh!

Your manual vac should get it out. are you backwashing your sand filter?

Scoop out the chunks too large for the vac with a good leaf net.

Hi! Yes, I do backwash but my vacuum has never picked up well since we first built the pool. It’s one of the reasons I bought a robot. We couldn’t even get the start up sediment our of the pool. Every time we vacuumed, it would be back the next day. Not as much but probably 2/3 of it. I do need to buy another leaf net. I’m nervous scooping the concrete chunks out because I don’t want to gouge the liner.

After you backwash, what is your psi? What is it BEFORE you backwash? Your manual vac will clean your pool......there is something wrong.

Given any reasonable caution, a leaf net will lift the chunks easily.

My psi after I backwash is usually below 10. More like between 5-8. Before I backwash It is usually 15-18 psi. I don’t have sand though, I have zeobrite. Would that make a difference?

You should backwash your sand filter when your pressure rises by 25% above clean pressure. With a VS pump be sure to have your RPM high enough to get a consistent pressure.

There have been reports on this forum of issues with the synthetic media not filtering well. Sand is the best product to use. It never wears out.

Take care.
