Best Return Jet positioning to eliminate floor dirt pattern for my pool - pic attached

I always have my jets pointed towards the wall they are on in the direction of the skimmer and with an angle that just touches the surface and then I follow the pattern for the other two jets as they get closer to the skimmer. I’m guessing my strategy is bad as you can see this dirt pattern on my floor in pictures attached.

What’s the best way to position them to eliminate this? I even run my pump on high 24/7 as my electricity is cheap compared to others.

Also looking for the positioning for my stairs where I have one just in the middle of each end.

What I do is throw some ping pong balls in the water and watch them to make sure the water is moving how I want it. I wonder if you can weight them in such a way so you can see how the circulation is towards the bottom. Just thinking outloud

Am I wrong in pointing the keys up towards the surface of the water and towards the wall in the direction of the skimmer? Some threads I read say to point them down.

So long as the return is not rolling the water (causes pH to go up) you can point them where ever works best to keep your pool clean. Each pool and area is so different there is no wrong way!

Skimmers capture things that float. Not sure what that is in your pool, but I don't believe that moving the return eyeballs will have much effect on removing it or keeping it from sinking to the bottom.

How are you vacuuming your pool now?

Is this a new problem or has it been around a long time?

I personally have the returns in the deep end point below surface and the shallow end returns are more towards the surface. I have never had this issue so far

I would say the issue is newish, dirt is settling in that pattern, it’s the kind of dirt that dissolves if you brush.

It’s annoying because I can clean the pool perfectly and then next morning I see that same pattern back.

Are you sure that the problem is not algae? It may not be, but it should something to rule out.

It might make sense to run an OCLT and maybe jack up your FC for few days to see if problem goes away (at least temporarily...)

I took a close look and I do see a hint of green, Dang my chlorine levels are good, must have dipped at one point.

Is the collection of dust like dirt like that a sign of Algae starting? It grows fast if that’s the case because it was just vacuumed 2-3 days ago.

If you keep your FC and CYA in the proper relationship, it should prevent algae from starting... But, once it does start to grow, then good chemicals numbers can just keep it at bay, but won't kill it.

If you ramp up your FC for a few days, and the problem (temporarily) goes away, you will know that it is algae. Then you will need to do a SLAM. It should be a pretty short one.

Or.. you can just do a SLAM now.

I keep most jets near but just under the surface so I can visually track them sending water towards the skimmer. I also have one pointing downward sending debris towards the drain. This helps keep my pool looking clean.

Are your walls sloped much? Looks like a defining ring of something shedding off walls, like dead algae.
