Balanced but green

Pool was perfect once opened. I accidentally let the chlorine get to 0, but added too much chlorine (was at 10) that day and kept it up since. Also, added phos free and metal free at the same time, to take care of the small amount of those ( I wish I'd read sooner not to worry about the phosphates). All chemicals have been balanced all week, but the pool has gotten greener and greener. I also added filter magic to my sand in case it was that. Help greatly appreciated.

And also post up here before you buy or put anything other than chlorine in your pool. Pool stores see $$$ when someone with a green pool walks in and will sell you all sorts of junk (algaecides, phosphate removers, flocculants, clarifiers, and other pool store magic potions). Those make $ for the pool store, but rarely help the root problem and many times lead to other problems.

You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100 or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.

Thank you for your response. I attached my results above with a pic of the water. Hopefully everyone can see it. FC is 3.53. I shocked last week and made sure ph and alkalinity was balanced. From what I read in the SLAM link above there's no need to shock again...Definitely open to whatever it takes. Thanks again!

Unfortunately, the pool store testing won't help us. :( While you would think it should be reliable, it's not. The brightness of your water also has me concerned. We really don't like to guess and have you take actions on those store results. You could end up getting frustrated at us or the situation in general for not clearing the water and spending money of wasted chemicals. Your first priority really needs to be one of the test kits Marty listed above.

Also tell us what products you generally add to the water. Some of those pool store products are not good at all. Also, if you are on a well we need to know that too.

The tfpro from tftestkits.net includes a $48 The K2006C has too much of the CH and TA tests that you wont use often, and no stirrer. The 2006(no c) has smaller supplies and you'll be replacing then quickly and no stirrer. The tf100 from tftestkits.net has the right amount of supplies but no stirring device.

Just looking at the pool store test results, which TFP doesn’t trust, side by side with your image of the pool, how could everything be in range and your pool is green? See why TFP strongly recommends “stay out of pool stores for the free water tests”? Without your own accurate results from one of the recommended test kits posted here, it is difficult to provide advice on clearing the green.

Get one of the test kits, check out the pool school articles, it all will make sense and in a short time.
