Hey all!

Thank you for taking the time to help out and apologies if this is repeat information. I've had a hard time searching for the answer on this one.

Basically, as the title says, what should I worry about balancing before doing a SLAM? Here are the details of my most recent test (1 hour ago):

- FC: 2.2
- CC: 0.8
- PH: 7.4
- TA: 120
- CH: 300
- CYA: 35 (or perhaps slightly less as it was difficult trying to tell if I could see the dot in the Taylor K2006 test kit)

I opened my pool ~2 weeks ago.
I rediscovered this site 3 days ago and immediately ordered a test kit which came today.
I had been using cal-hypo shock bags in excess to get my pool from dark green to a glowing blue
It's been extremely cloudy until 2 days ago where I can finally barely see the liner in the shallow end (only in the sunlight)
I've gotten 99% of the leaves and debris out of the bottom of the pool.
I brush every 1-2 days

After testing this evening with my new kit I decided I'd start the SLAM. Then I wondered to what extent I should be fixing some of the other issues like TA. I know PH is meant to be between 7 and 7.4 (although the lower the better), but I then forget about it during the SLAM.

Anyway - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to test again in the morning before the sun hits the pool and try to get the FC up to 14ppm (it's currently at 11ppm).

Thanks!

Great job on having a quality test kit and posting current pool water chemistry!
Follow the SLAM Process. It only mentions CYA, FC, and pH. As those are all you care about. pH and CYA before you start. And FC during.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool

Yes! Ok, that's great. I tend to overthink everything so I was worried that it maybe only mentioned CYA, FC and PH in the SLAM process because it assumed everything else was good.
And also yes - I will be reading through as much as I can. I can't live another summer losing sleep over my pool.

Thanks!
