Bad install = burned SWG power center

What is the switch controlling?

The lack of bonding had no bearing on the Breeze burning out.

Hi and sorry, it's been a busy week. The switch controlled both the Pump and the SWG. they are both plugged straight to the plug (with no GFCI protection) as seen in the photo.
I juts received the Breeze 540 unit. I want to make sure that it doesn't burn just like the Jacuzzi 540 that's why I'm trying to troubleshoot the reason before I plug the new one in.

Ok I guess I'm going to leave this issue unresolved. The main thing is that the switch IS 240v so that was not the cause of the burning of the unit. The switch was installed to control the older single pump but now its connected to both the VST pump and the SWG, so I don't really need a switch. I might just install a 240v GFCI outlet. That was long overdue anyways.
I'm also assuming that its a 20A circuit since the breaker is 20A. So then the last thing is the bonding/grounding issue. Somebody recommended not doing a grounding rod so not sure how else to do this... I have a used Breeze 540 unit that I wanted to replace the old one with but I just don't want it to fry again :(

Thanks everybody that chimed in to help!

I'm also assuming that its a 20A circuit since the breaker is 20A.

I would not assume that. Someone could have placed a 20A breaker on a 15 amp circuit.

To be a legal 20 amp circuit it needs to be wired with 12 gauge wire and connected to a 20A outlet.

So then the last thing is the bonding/grounding issue.

The ground should be connected to the electrical circuit ground wire.

Bonding lugs should be connected to the pool bonding grid.
