i think keeping it simple is the best route.
1. wired speakers
2. some type of preamp/amp setup that has full app control and is all one unit to hook speaker up to.
sonos. 1 box. all the internet services you can think of. hook it up and control. slickest app also which requires no programming.
relying on voice for control outside is asking for trouble. these types of controls are just not there yet. the sonos app contains everything.
if i didn't have a full home setup already i would just do this.
i have 2 zones outside: pool and pool house. i would put 2 sonos preamp/amps outside with speaker wire run to each foreach zone and control it from my phone or iPad. plain and simple. 1 and done. then you can 'grow it from there into ur house and the 1 app controls all the zones u add.
no programming just plug and play and go. how much easier can it be.
if you don't like sonos there is nuvo technologies profile system. you need to buy it from a custom installer though. that's why sonos is still the most user friendly diy solution if you want to take control urself.
sonos connect amp. 1 for each zone.
i have a sonos connect setup as one of my sources for people to play with if they don't want o use nuvo's media player or not be married to 1 camp for full home audio and the app just works. always. and like i said it looks the best.
i know i have said this in this thread. i just don't like bluetooth, wifi speakers. wireless speakers. i'm also not a fan of the whole voice control thing, but it's also because i don't want o have to go back and problem solve for setups. with hardwired and a simple setup it just always works and there are no worries then.
