Backwashing timing

Hi everyone, got what I thinking it is stupid question, but this weekend we are having a big party. Currently my pressure is right around the 1/2 way mark, but I tried to keep it very clean so it took months to finally get to that point. My question is, would it be better to backwash prior or after the party or would there be zero difference? Thanks!

Y,

I see no advantage to backwashing just because you plan to have a party..

I had two rent house pools with DE filters, and I removed the Multiport valve, and just opened and cleaned the filters twice a year. I have now replaced one of the DE filters with a large cartridge filter, and expect it will only need to be cleaned once a year. We will see..

If you are running your pump at a low RPM, most of the time, it will take forever to get to the point where your filter needs to be cleaned or backwashed.

Thanks,

Jim R.

yeah, I run it 24/7 at 1200 RPM, just enough for the SWC to work without issue. When I check my pressure, I always have to turn the pump up to high to get a true value obviously. Okay, cool, I will just monitor it as normal and follow suit. Thanks!

'member when we bought honking large filters to need less cleanings ? Yeah. I do too. :)

Enjoy the party.

Y,

I use a 30 lb. gauge... Even so, at 1200 RPM my filter pressure is about 1 lb.

I don't really care what it is on faster speeds, as I clean my filters based on a schedule, and not the pressure..

Thanks,

Jim R.

@Newdude, Yeah, I did up my filter size when planning the pool for this exact reason. I just backwash so infrequently, I am second guessing myself :)
@Jimrahbe - Interesting point you bring up which begs the question, should I be backwashing based on time or pressure? The pool looks good, no issues and my pressure is in the middle (I have not backwashed this entire year so far), but should I be doing it differently? Again, 2nd guessing myself.

Thanks!

Pat yourself on the back instead for excellent forethought when everyone else was spending money on the flashy fun things. They aren't enjoying those $1200 loungers, because they're too busy backwashing. :ROFLMAO:

If you make it to the end of the season, which is very possible, then clean it then.

Y,

My personal position backwashing is... If the flow back to the pool still feels good, then there is just no reason to backwash or clean the filter.

If I can feel the water at a pool return and it does not feel as strong as normal, then that is my key to clean the filter, even if it not yet scheduled.. So far I have not had that problem.

Thanks,

Jim R.

+1. I clean mine once the spring crud is done because i open crazy early and again at the end of the season. I never *need* to clean my filters this way and I don't mind twice a year at all.
