Nailed it! If I am seeing it right they have TWO sets of the bottom grid steel bent and going up to wall! NICE! It also looks like they are all tied tight as well. Looks like they are doing great work.

It's a bummer we never heard back, and regrettably for me, the Dropbox link is bad, so I have no idea how bad it was or any comparison in differences. I know gravel fill compacts a lot better than sand, so I was glad to see gravel used in mine. My PB said he'd engineer the pool and in the permits I see the design and stamp/seal from K&W Engineering here in town.
If anyone who is good at reading engineering stuff wants to PM me, I'll send some stuff over, hoping someone can explain it to me a little better, although it seems self explanatory.
You should feel good about your pool. I would talk to your builder about it. Show them pics of that failed build ask them how your build is different.
You are an awesome searcher! That is the one I was thinking about.......so sad. The main crack was where you see the darker line in the shell along where the back wall meets the floor. It was very pronounced in one of the pics. Shame the linke to dropbox is broken.

Thanks, yeah we got the bubblers in, and I had him add two plumbed parts so we can have fountain-bowls. As far as the standard pool pump systems, I have to trust he knows what he's doing because I wouldn't be able to tell if it's over or under plumbed, but the vanity stuff/features we all wanted is there.

For what it's worth, and taking walkinpool's advice, I reached out to my pool builder. Given the detailed pics from that build are no longer available, I just explained about it and asked him to fill in some details in addition to confirming the engineering. His response is below.
I'll try to summarize the main points in the engineering plans, but effectively it is: 4000 PSI minimum gunite, 95% compacted fill, #4 double mat everywhere, minimum 8" shell thickness at bottom, minimum 12" shell thickness on verticals, minimum 24" vertical extended beam into undisturbed sub-grade. I may have misread something based on confusing (to me) orientations.
I asked my PB for a bit more about how the cradle and sub-grade worked as that wasn't clear on the engineering guide, and he said:

- The pool cradle was built just like a house foundation. It has a perimeter beam into subgrade as well as two cross section beams. All steel in pool and beams have #4 o.c double mat. The pool shell sits on top of the concrete cradle and is tied into the verticals coming out of the beams.

You can rest easy tonight. It really looks like thinks are being done like they should be. If you read the comments on the other thread you can kind of tell what was done wrong like a single mat of steel.

Thanks, I have no reason to be concerned other than ignorance, but from everything I've read and researched, it's directly inline with best industry practices. I'll keep everyone posted as this thing progresses.

We really wanted to buy a house with a pool, but I think I trivialized what a pool would cost and how much hassle it was. In our area, which is a very specific area of Austin with a particular school track, we did observe homes with pools, particularly nice ones sold immediately at significant premiums. Part of that is likely related to anyone buying in this area is buying for schools; only people with younger children buy into this area, and they typically sell once the kids are out because the property is overly inflated based on schools and a very central location.
All that said, we found a home we really loved with an acre in a canyon, and again I trivialized what the build would be on this terroir. The good of it is, it'll be a pool with a view, and it'll be an area to enterain our family, friends and future friends (of our child). In reality, comparing the prices of other homes with incredible pools, it helped me justify spending more. While you'll never get 100% back in a pool, if there's a neighborhood where you'd minimize losses, it's probably this one.
Furthermore, we're adding a ton of decking/outdoor living on otherwise difficult terrain as well as a full bathroom with air conditioning and an outdoor kitchen/cabana. So my price is bundled with all of that which makes it feel extreme, but compared to other quotes for "just a pool", I think I ended up with a reasonable deal. However, compared to some other builds, I often question myself. If I had to do it all over again, I would've bought a house with an epic pool already installed, but in reality, I'd probably be close to the same end price...
