Austin Owner Build (Raised Pool with Infinity Edge)

A few nighttime pictures. The blue is our favorite color but it does not photograph well. I set it up so that the pool, bubblers, spa, and catch basin can all be different colors. However only my 7 year old plays with the lights. The picture of the catch basin was taken prior to the railing being installed.

It has been awhile since I last posted. Pentair finally has the propane conversion kit available for the hybrid heaters. Having both the heat pump and gas running at the same time makes a big difference in heating up my spa. The hybrid heater is a little odd in how it functions but I am getting used to it. The heater (in hybrid mode) tries to heat with only the heat pump but kicks on the gas when the heat pump needs help (setting instruct the heater when to turn on the gas). The gas heater is very efficient—the exhaust is warm not burning hot.

I also installed Pentair’s acid pump without the controller. I got tired of dumping acid in the pool. My ph always moved back to 7.8 but I want it closer to 7.5.

The pump puts out about 5 ounces of water per minute without being hooked up to the injector check valve. I should have tested it with the injector check valve.
I am diluting my acid 50%. So one minute of run time should put about 2 ounces of acid in my pool. I am currently running the acid pump for one minute per day. I do not know if I will need to add time or dilute the acid more. But, it appears that my ph is dropping a little each day.

I used one of my extra IntelliCenter relays to send 120v to a 24v dc power supply. So far it is working well.

I know you were happy when they FINALLY got the kit to you!! Were you up to daily calls to them about it? Glad to hear it is working for you!

pH-what is the reason you want it at 7.5? Where is the TA......pH & TA work hand in hand so adjusting the TA might help with the pH if needed. Some pH like to be at 7.8 and that is okay. (I say this knowing you have a solid reason but want to get in your head to see what you are thinking)

Getting the conversion kit was much more difficult than it should have been.

My TA is 60 and has measured as low as 50 but is normally 60 (i have baking soda on hand but have not used it so far). I want the ph a little lower than 7.8 to help control scaling and to get the ph a little closer to eye/tear ph. With all of my water features (bubblers, water bowls, spillover spa, and infinity edge) and the swg, my ph rises to 7.8 quickly and has risen a little above 7.8. Most of the times when I check my ph it is at 7.8 (I no longer check everyday). In the past, I would pour a little acid in the pool every so often (no set time frame but probably once every two to four days). If I did not put any acid in the pool, I suspect my ph would continue to climb over time.

I could use 7.8 as a ph target but figured since I am creating an automation process for the acid to shoot for a slightly lower number. My logic is probably wrong but . . . .

Once the ph settles and I learn what a set amount of acid per day does, I should be able to hit any target ph number.
