Attaching vacuum hose in skimmer

Hello, new’ish here and first time trying to vacuum the pool. I’m trying to attach the vacuum hose into the skimmer. Cody Pools says to remove this cap inside the skimmer and then connect the hose. Does this look & sound right?

For the life of me I can’t get this cap off.

Yes for mine I had to pull out that larger one then once that was out there was another hole under it that you use to insert the vacuum hose. I also had to turn the dial on the equipment to get the suction.

Thanks! I’ll put a little more mmph into it. Do I need to take off what looks like a PVC coupling only or the smaller PVC piece as well? Curious because the whole thing is somewhat loose but I was told to remove the ‘cap’.

No. Just that larger one should pull out and there should be another hole directly under that. You can't really see it with that longer one plugged in
