ASR related skimmer cracks

My pool has been significantly impacted by ASR and there is no telling when the shell will fail on me, it’s severely cracked but still holding together.

Now I do have cracked skimmers that I’ve patched multiple times, first with pool putty, then next with a more strong epoxy like ultrabond which has lasted a good 8 months, but even this is now cracking. Given how the cracks are on both sides opposite to each other it tells me that there is perpendicular forces due to ASR compressing the skimmer resulting in the continued cracks.

Given the ASR issues, I don’t want to pay money to replace the skimmer in its entirety, just looking at uniques ways to continue patching the skimmers. Any good ideas out there? The 2 pics are from the same skimmer.

Should I drill some holes from the outside to alleviate pressure on the skimmers? Should I trying using expanding spray foam some how to seal the cracks?

Can you show some wider pictures of the complete skimmer so we can see what is around the skimmer?

Can you highlight where you are thinking of drilling holes?

I don't think drilling holes will stop the structure from moving and putting pressure on the plastic skimmer.

I think you just need to keep on patching the cracks wherever they pop up.

I would have used Plast-aid to patch the skimmer although I don't know how well it will work on top of the epoxy you put on. For new crack areas try it..

Thank you for the insight; I will try to use a Dremel to roughen up the existing cracks and try plast aid on it. Thank you again.

So fast forward since we last chatted on here, my ASR pool is literally on its last breath, the skimmers are again severely cracking post winter, see new pictures, I just need another bandaid idea to limp through another season before the pool literally crumbles on me. Here are some options I’m contemplating-

1. Drill holes in skimmer near cracks and inject insulation foam in multiple areas

2. Continue to patch with putty/ plast aid from the outside

3. Thinking of apply some form of thick rubber based acrylic paint across the entire skimmer
